UFC Fight Night 129 takes place today, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile, and it airs on FS1 following prelims on FS2 and UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, welterweight contenders Demian Maia (25-8 MMA, 19-8 UFC) and Kamaru Usman (12-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) meet. In the women’s strawweight co-main event, Alexa Grasso (10-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) fights undefeated Tatiana Suarez (5-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC).

Results

Claudio Puelles vs. Felipe Silva

Round 1 – Puelles opens with a leg kick. He then tries to go high multiple times, but Silva evades and comes back with a pair of his own head kick attempts. Puelles changes levels and gets a single leg takedown. He’s in Silva’s full guard. Puelles is working from on top but Silva is being aggressive with up kick attempts. Puelles attempts to jump on a guillotine but he can’t get it in tight. He lets go and attempts to scramble to the back, but allows Silva to get on top. The scramble continues and Puelles dives on the leg for a knee bar attempt. Silva shows composure and frees his leg before standing up. Puelles tries to wave Silva down to the ground, but he wants not part of it. Silva lands a pair of punches. Puelles goes for a flying armbar, but it’s not close. He scrambles back to his feet and waits for his next opening to land another takedown. He gets some ground-and-pound in before Silva stands back up. Puelles has a takedown stuffed and eats a couple more punches before the end of the round. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Silva.

Round 2 – Silva immediately comes forward with bad intentions and is throwing big shots. Puelles is tentative on his feet, but is trying to answer with the counter. Silva’s output is slowing down and Puelles is gaining confidence in throwing with his hands. Silva lands a punishing leg kick and follows with an attempt to the head that’s blocked. Silva clinches and throws a pair of knees to the body before breaking free. That forces Puelles to attempt his first takedown of the round, but Silva easily stuffs him. Silva connects with another leg kick followed by a solid combination of punches. Puelles is hurt and moves backward before falling to the ground. Silva jumps on top with an onslaught of punches and elbows. Puelles moves from the bottom but Silva knows his opponent is in trouble. Silva stands up and forces Puelles to stand back up. Silva comes in with big punches and Puelles dives for a takedown that’s rejected. Silva continues to batter Puelles, who barely escapes the round. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-8 for Silva, who is ahead big 20-17 after two rounds.

Round 3 – Puelles looks to have recovered well between rounds. He comes out throwing leg kicks and even throws a spinning backfist. Silva just waits for his opening, though, and lands a massive right hand that drops Puelles. Silva jumps on top with more punches, but can’t get the finish. He makes Puelles get up and moments later lands another hard shot that stuns Puelles. Silva is trying to get a stoppage, but Puelles, whose eye is swelled shut with a nasty mouse, is keeping himself in the fight by moving and scrambling for submissions. He latches on to a kneebar and gets it in very deep. Silva is grimacing in pain and taps out! Epic, amazing submission comeback from Puelles. Comeback of the year contender type stuff.

Henry Briones vs. Frankie Saenz

Round 1 – Saenz is instantly looking to put pressure on and close the distance. Briones is the lengthier fighter and is using that to extend punches on Saenz. Saenz looks to initiate a grappling exchange, but doesn’t commit much to it. They go back to striking and both men land some solid shots. Saenz goes back in for another takedown, and he gets it. Saenz quickly gets to work from on top with punches and elbows. Briones stays calm, though, and uses the fence to get back to his feet and break free. Briones is pressing forward but is eating right hands from Saenz. Briones begins to settle in and connects with a right hand that knocks Saenz off balance. Saenz continues to come forward but eats a left hand. Saenz looks for another takedown, but he can’t get it before the end of the round. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Saenz.

Round 2 – Briones comes out looking more educated to Saenz’s strategy and keeps himself at range. He’s throwing hands at his opponent, but Saenz isn’t backing down and is getting his own shots in. Saenz lands a clean punch that puts Briones on his butt. Briones quickly recovers and gets back up, but he immediately looks to clinch to get out of danger. Saenz moves away from the clinch and looks to follow up with more punches. Briones comes forward but gives Saenz an opportunity to change levels for the takedown. He’s on top, but can’t inflict much damage or hold a dominant position before Briones returns to his feet. Saenz shoots for another takedown moments later, but Briones stuffs it. Saenz is slowing down and beginning to eat Briones’ punches. Saenz attempts several more takedowns, but Briones has them scouted and won’t go to the mat. Saenz clinches and lands some hard knees to the body. Briones is bleeding from around his left eye, but the round is over and he’ll have a chance to get cleaned up. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Saenz.

Round 3 – Shortly after the round begins Saenz lands a knee to the groin of Briones. The referee briefly stops the fight, but Briones recovers and the bout resumes. Briones lands a hard leg kick and barely misses on an uppercut. Briones points to the center of the octagon with hopes of luring Saenz into a firefight, but Saenz shoots for a takedown instead. Briones shuts it down and continues to work. Saenz attempts another takedown, and this time Briones attempts a guillotine choke. Saenz easily slips out of it, though, and finds himself in top control. He’s holding on to Briones’ neck and riding the position, but Briones isn’t content to just accept bottom position. He’s trying to get up, but Saenz won’t let go. Briones keeps at it, however, and finally gets himself upright with just over a minute remaining. Briones is pushing forward looking for a desperation strike to change the fight, but Saenz simply times another takedown and rides out the clock. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Saenz, who should get 30-27 scorecards.

Enrique Barzola vs. Brandon Davis

Round 1 – Barzola implementing some awkward movements and stance from the early going before opening with a head kick. Barzola lands a push kick to Davis’ chest. Davis is closing the distance, but Barzola lands a powerful leg kick that takes Davis’ leg out from under him. Barzola jumps on him and tries to take the back, but Davis stands up. Barzola sweeps the foot of Davis, however, he can’t keep him down. Barzola is stuck on the legs though and trying numerous takedown techniques, including a slam. Davis refuses to stay grounded, though, and forces Barzola to break away into striking range. They trade leg kicks. The pace of the striking picks up and both men are landing in combination. Barzola overcommits on a strike and it leads to him being taken down. Davis is now the man on top and begins working his ground-and-pound. Barzola kicks Davis off of him and stands up just before the end of the round. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Barzola.

Round 2 – Barzola wastes no time pursuing the takedown. He gets a body lock on Davis and is again trying to take the fight down, but Davis shows tremendous resistance the attempts. Barzola finally picks up Davis and slams him to the mat and lands in half guard. Barzola has an established position on the mat for the first time and is looking to pass the guard of his opponent. Barzola attacks with a guillotine choke, but can’t lock it in. Davis uses the position to stand up, but Barzola is absolutely relentless. He connects with another slam and is able to take Davis’ back. Davis attempts to reverse the position, but can’t do it. They scramble and Barzola attempts and anaconda choke. He can’t get that either. Barzola takes the back of Davis and beats him up with short shots for the remainder of the round. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-8 for Barzola, and he’s ahead 20-17.

Round 3 – Barzola shows an increased willingness to strike in the final frame. Davis is exhausted from being on the wrong end of grappling exchanges, though, and is unable to take advantage of the time standing before Barzola shoots for a takedown again. He can’t get a good grip on Davis, who answers with a hard knee that does damage to Barzola’s nose. Barzola continues his pursuit of the grappling game, taking Davis down again and going to work. Barzola isn’t doing a ton of damage, but he has a massive positional advantage of Davis and is burning clock quickly. He does what’s necessary to prevent Davis from getting anything going, though, and takes the final round on the scorecards 10-9. MMAjunkie scores the fight 30-26 for Davis.

Gabriel Benitez vs. Humberto Bandenay

Round 1 – Benitez comes out on fire and catches Bandenay with a left hand on the chin in the opening seconds. He looks to swarm Bandenay, who shifts to the armbar position. Benitez picks Bandenay and slams him head first into the canvas. Bandenay is hurt bad. Benitez follows up with a few punches and the referee steps in. Bandenay is out. Crazy fight ends in just 39 seconds.

Poliana Botelho vs. Syuri Kondo

Round 1 – Botelho lands a left body kick on Kondo right off the bat, and Kondo is hurt bad to the liver. She freezes up and falls to the canvas and curls up. Botelho lands a few follow up shots before the referee finally calls it off just 33 seconds after the bout began.

Brandon Moreno vs. Alexandre Pantoja

Round 1 – Moreno opens with a leg kick and Pantoja answers with the jab and a leg kick of his own. Moreno misses on spinning wheel kick, then goes back to the leg attack. Pantoja lands a counter right hand off the top followed by a grazing knee to the head. Moreno shoots in for a takedown and a scramble for it ensues. Pantoja is able to avoid being grounded and gets the fight back to striking range. Pantoja lands his right hands several times, and it seemingly getting his timing down well. Moreno is coming forward with looping punches, but is walking into Pantoja’s attacks. Pantoja is repeatedly finding his way through Pantoja’s defense . He comes at Moreno with another blitz where he lands leg kicks, uppercuts and more. Pantoja lands a hard punch too Moreno’s nose that hurts him and causes him to back up. He runs away from Pantoja and adjusts position before going for the takedown. Pantoja easily stuffs it and is building in confidence. Moreno ducks a head kick and falls to the ground. Pantoja follows him and is working to half guard. He briefly looks for a D’arce choke, but connects with some hard shots, one of which cuts Moreno open. Pantoja ends the round with a huge flurry, and Moreno is bloody and in big trouble. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-8 for Pantoja.

Round 2 – Pantoja goes right back to working his mix of leg kicks and right hands. Pantoja is landing at will, and Moreno attempts to get a takedown. It’s not even close to happening, though, and he takes more damaging punches. Pantoja lands a series of jabs followed by a leg kick. Pantoja puts his hands down and invites Moreno to come at him. Moreno slips off a high kick attempt and Pantoja comes in to work from the clinch. Moreno avoids some inside elbows and breaks into free space. Pantoja is in his groove with the jab to Moreno’s bloody nose. He scores with another leg kick, but the pace of the bout is slowing down. Moreno lands a jab followed by a hook to the body, but Pantoja answers with a leg kick and yet another right hand. Pantoja then scores a left hand that staggers Moreno. He throws a flurry that includes a hard knee to the body, but he can’t capitalize before the end of the round. MMAjunkie scores the second 10-9 for Pantoja, and he’s ahead 20-17 on our scorecard.

Round 3 – Pantoja is attacking with his kicks, but not at the same rate he was earlier in the fight. Moreno eats a front kick and looks to close the distance. They clinch, and Moreno moves Pantoja toward the fence. He can’t do anything more than hold, but managed to connect with a short elbow off the eventual break. Moreno is still pressing the action and looking for a way to win, but the counter right hand of Pantoja continues to be a difference maker. Pantoja is aware he’s ahead big and is not taking much in the way of risks. He throws a high kick that’s caught by Moreno and turned into a brief grappling scramble. Moreno shows some frustration with Pantoja’s circling, but the Brazilian is not taking the bait. He does in the final 10 seconds, though, stepping into a wild exchange with Moreno to close the fight. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Pantoja for a 30-26 scorecard.

Zak Cummings vs. Michel Prazeres

Round 1 – The size advantage for Cummings is extremely noticeable off the bat. Prazeres attempts to close the distance with an overhand right and a body kick, but he can’t land clean. Cummings is pumping the jab and Prazeres sneaks a right hand down the middle. Prazeres changes levels for a takedown. He can’t get the initial entry, but cuts an angle and is able to establish top position from the half guard. Prazeres is attempting to work, but Cummings locks him down and doesn’t allow any development. Referee Leon Roberts gets frustrated with the stalemate and stands the fight up. Prazeres comes in with punching attacks and there’s a clash of heads which opens a cut above Cummings’ left eye. The fight goes on and Prazeres is beginning to find his range. Cummings is having difficulty getting into any sort of groove, and Prazeres continues to pepper him on the feet for the remainder of the round. MMAjunkie scores the opening frame 10-9 for Prazeres.

Round 2 – Prazeres gets in on the legs of Cummings for an early takedown attempt. The initial entry is denied, but Prazeres has Cummings pressed against the fence with a body lock. He drags the fight to the ground and takes Cummings’ back. Cummings is able to stand up, break the body lock and turn the clinch position around on Prazeres. Cummings is working from inside and manages to open a cut around Prazeres’ eye with a short punch. The clinch situation breaks up and Prazeres goes back into his offense from a distance. His right hand is on point, and Cummings is having a difficult time stopping it from landing. He attempts to clinch an incoming Prazeres and goes for a trip takedown. Prazeres denies it, but allows Cummings to press him back against the cage. Cummings is landing short knees then tries for a takedown, but Prazeres stops it by grabbing the cage. The referee separates them with 10 seconds left in the round and Cummings comes in with a wild flying knee attempt that misses. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Cummings. It’s even after two.

Round 3 – Cummings comes out aggressive to open the final round. He can’t do any significant damage, allowing Prazeres to settle in and find his punching range. Cummings is avoiding the right hand better than earlier in the fight, but now he’s starting to get tagged with the left, as well. The crowd is getting restless with the lack of exciting moments, but both men are content to fight as they are. Prazeres changes levels off a punch and goes for another takedown. Cummings stops him and lands a knee to the head from a front headlock position. He presses Prazeres against the fence and is fighting hard to find an advantage. The referee separates them again, and Cummings’ cut is really beginning to leak. He throws a head kick that Prazeres blocks. Prazeres’ output has faded and he’s regressed to primarily counter striking. Cummings lands a hard body kick followed by a knee. That gives Prazeres a chance to land a double leg takedown, and rides out the rest of the round from top position. MMAjunkie scores the final round 10-9 for Prazeres, giving him the 29-28 edge.

Vicente Luque vs. Chad Laprise

Round 1 – Both men are circling and trying to feel each other out to begin the fight. Laprise sticks Luque with a left hand. Each side is attacking with leg kicks early. Luque falls just short on a hook, but it being active with his hands. Laprise continues to be very mobile before he finally decides to clinch with Luque and go for a takedown. He can’t get it, but he has control of the fight against the fence. The Canadian is working hard to get in on Luque’s hips, but to no avail. Luque circles away from the fence and it returns to striking range. Laprise peppers Luque as he keeps moving a lot around the cage. Luque is showing good patience, though, stalking Laprise and picking his shots as he changes stances. Laprise nearly lands a big head kick and presses the action. Luque lands a bomb of a left hand to the chin that instantly drops Laprise to the canvas. Luque lands some punches on the ground to finish the job for the opening-round TKO stoppage.

Veronica Macedo vs. Andrea Lee

Round 1 – Macedo is aggressive early with leg kicks and punches. She’s hammering Lee with the right hand. Lee answers by getting the Thai clinch and landing some hard knees to the body. Macedo lands a spinning back kick to the body of Lee. “KGB” starts working her own kicking game and is mixing in the right hands. They clinch again, but this time with Macedo pressing Lee against the fence. Lee reverses the position and goes back to the knees to the body. She has back control on Macedo from a standing position and is throwing punches before picking her opponent up and slamming her to the ground. Lee stands over Macedo and is throwing leg kicks and axe kicks to her down opponent. Lee backs off and the referee makes Macedo stand up. Macedo lands two head kicks in a row and Lee is forced to back up. She gets through the flurry, though, and takes Macedo down. Lee quickly transitions to the back and wastes no time applying a rear-naked choke. She flattens Macedo out, but releases the choke in favor of punching. Macedo postures up and Lee is too high on the back. Lee goes for a late armbar, but runs out of time in the round. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Lee.

Round 2 – Lee opens the round with a front kick to the body. Macedo attempts a spinning kick to the head, but misses. She follows with a right hand that lands on Lee. Lee closes the distance again and fights her way into the clinch. Lee scores with some knees to the body before a head-and-arm throw puts the fight on the ground. Macedo quickly scrambles up to her feet, but Lee takes her down again. Lee is in full guard and throwing short strikes. Macedo goes for an armbar but it’s easily avoided by Lee, who stands back over Macedo again throwing kicks from a standing position. Macedo stands up and is looking to press the issue. She gets a takedown of her own, but Lee is able to reserve the position and get back on top. Macedo is being active for submissions and rolls for a kneebar. Lee stops it, though, and gets in half guard. Lee attempts an arm-triangle choke, but doesn’t have enough time to finish it. She postures up with strikes but Macedo scrambles up to her feet before the bell. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Lee.

Round 3 – Lee gets the fight to the mat in short order to begin the final frame. She establishes top control, and even gets the mounted crucifix briefly. Macedo is never content to rest from the bottom, though, and scrambles enough to force Lee off of her. Lee is once again standing over a downed Macedo throwing kicks to the legs. Macedo is trying to throw up kicks, but can’t time anything clean. The referee decided to stand Macedo up. It doesn’t stand in that position for long, though, because Lee easily scores with another takedown. Lee gets side control and lands elbows on Macedo before advancing to mount. Macedo gives up her back, giving Lee an opportunity for a choke. Lee can’t get it, and Macedo reverses her to get top position for herself. Lee attacks with an armbar, but it turns it into a scramble that again ends with Lee in top position, where she stays for the remainder of the fight. Diego Rivas vs. Guido Cannetti

Round 1 – Both men come our relatively tentative. Cannetti falls over after a leg kick, but Rivas doesn’t jump on him. Rivas clinches with Cannetti and presses him against the fence. The crowd is going absolutely insane for Rivas, who is peppering his opponent with knees to the thigh. Rivas commits to a takedown attempt, but Cannetti keeps upright. The referee warns the fighters to be more active in the clinch after Cannetti takes control. He responds with a takedown. Cannetti is on top in full guard. He attempts to advance as Rivas goes for an armbar. Cannetti picks Rivas up and slams his head into the canvas and out of the armbar. Rivas eats a few hard shots and has given up his back. He stands up, and Rivas is now riding Cannetti from a backpack position. Rivas stays calm, however, and methodically works his way out of the dangerous situation. He tries to go after Cannetti in the final seconds of the round, but can’t get anything done. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Cannetti.

Round 2 – It’s mostly both fighters circling to begin the round until Cannetti causes a break in the action with an accidental low blow on Rivas. It’s only a brief stop, though, and when they resume Cannetti comes out with a hard body kick. A scramble occurs off a takedown attempt and it’s Cannetti who ends up on top. He’s in side control, and then half guard. Rivas recovers guard completely, and the fight stays there for the next several minutes with Cannetti only throwing minimal punches. The referee finally decides to stand them up. It turns back into a grappling fight quickly, though, with Rivas diving on a guillotine choke attempt. It looks close for a moment, but Cannetti pops his head free and is on top once again. He takes Cannetti’s back near the end of the round. MMAjunkie scores the second 10-9 for Cannetti, and he’s two rounds up overall.

Round 3 – Rivas knows he down on the cards and comes out fighting aggressive. He throws a bunch of striking techniques at Cannetti, but can’t find a clean home for anything. His aggression causes Cannetti to open up with spinning kicks and multi-strike combinations. Rivas clinches Cannetti near the fence and lands a hard right elbow. The referee warns the fighters to be more active, and Rivas is trying his hardest to land something significant. Cannetti decides to drop for a guillotine choke attempt of his own, but can’t finish it. Rivas has control from on top, and again against the fence when Cannetti stands up. Cannetti is bleeding, but it doesn’t appear to be hindering his vision or ability to fight. Cannetti lands a body kick; Rivas fires back with his own. Rivas output has fallen off a cliff with 90 seconds remaining. There’s a couple exchanges before the end of the round, but Rivas is unable to achieve a huge comeback in front of his home country crowd. Jared Cannonier vs. Dominick Reyes

Round 1 – To no surprise, Cannonier and Reyes come out swinging for the fences. Nothing gets through clean in the first minute, but they are close to connecting huge. Reyes lands a nice knee to the body, but briefly loses his balance. Reyes attempts a single leg takedown, but Cannonier denies it. Cannonier is looking to throw straight down the middle and crowd Reyes, who has a significant height and reach advantage. Reyes ups his striking output and hits Cannonier hard with an uppercut. Cannonier is wobbled in big trouble. Reyes lands another huge uppercut that puts Cannonier down on a knee, and Marc Goddard has seen enough. Another first-round finish for Reyes, who is still unbeaten.

Alexa Grasso vs. Tatiana Suarez

Round 1 – Grasso comes out hard with a lot of movement around the cage. Suarez is more plotting and looking to pick her shots as she moves forward. Suarez shoots for a takedown less than 40 seconds in and has Grasso pressed against the fence. Grasso fires off a series of elbows to Suarez’s head, but she takes them and gets a head-and-arm throw. Grasso stands up, but Suarez is still glued to her against the fence. Suarez completes a trip takedown and gets into side control. Grasso is active from bottom, though, trying to kick Suarez off her as she stands up. Suarez is all over Grasso and is landing some solid punches as she transitions. Suarez gets the back and quickly locks in a rear-naked choke on Grasso. She has the forearm under the neck, adjusts the finishes the fight with the rear-naked choke. Domination from Suarez.

Demian Maia vs. Kamaru Usman

Round 1 – Usman comes out in a crawling position while Maia is in his classic stance. Maia pumps the jab at Usman, who is already winging overhands at his opponent. Maia lands a straight left hand that definitely gets Usman’s attention. Usman attempts a leg kick and Maia turns it into a takedown attempt. Maia fights hard for it, but he can’t plant Usman on the canvas. Maia stays tight on Usman, though, and gets an awkward position on the back. Usman has a hook in that’s defending Maia from taking his back completely. It’s a stalemate from that position, and eventually referee Leon Roberts gets fed up and breaks them up, much to Maia’s dismay. They resume from striking range and it’s Usman who is moving forward throwing punches. He walks into a straight punch from Maia, who is working his jab and using good movement. Usman charges forward with a combination before the end of the round. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Maia.

Round 2 – Usman throws a head kick to open the second round. He gets a warning from the referee to keep his fingers closed. Usman is throwing heavy punches that are barely missing the target. He tags Maia with a body shot and a jab. Maia changes levels for a takedown, but Usman easily stuffs it. Usman has a front headlock position. He simply holds the position until the referee warns him to be action. He throws a few punches, but that gives Maia room to slip away and stand up. Usman gets another warning to keep his fingers closed. Maia shoots for another takedown. He seems to get in on it well, but he can’t get through Usman’s hips. They return to striking, but Maia is simply biding time until his next takedown. He gets close on a single leg, but Usman doesn’t allow himself to go down. Usman lands a series of jabs and a few peppering right hooks. Usman clinches Maia against the fence, and the Brazilian decides to pull guard. There’s only less than 20 seconds left, though, and nothing happens before the horn. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Usman, and it’s even after two.

Round 3 – Maia attacks Usman with the right hand early but opens himself up to Usman’s right hand counter. Maia gets backed up with a hard shot and is beginning to look somewhat lost on ideas. Usman leaps in with a hard right hand but Maia takes it well. Maia fakes a takedown attempt then just misses with a right hand upstairs. Maia is still trying to push the pace but can’t generate the power to hurt Usman. Usman is gaining major confidence and landing to the body and head. Maia dives in for a takedown the flops to the ground. He waves Usman to come to the ground with him, but Usman declines and punches him in the foot. The referee makes Maia stand up, and it’s clear he’s tiring. Maia fails on multiple takedown attempts and Usman is back in the headlock position. There’s little in the way of action for the rest of the round, which MMAjunkie scores 10-9 for Usman. He’s ahead 29-28.

Round 4 – Usman lands a huge punch in the opening seconds of the round and it puts Maia on his back. He’s hurt and Usman swarms the Brazilian with a flurry of punches. Maia somehow keeps himself in the fight and Usman decides to back off and allow him to stand up. Maia seems to have regained his wits. He shoots for a takedown but it’s stuffed by Usman, who opens up with some hard punches from a front headlock position. Maia is defending himself well, but he’s cut open around the eye. He stands up and shoots for another takedown, but again with no luck. Usman is stalking Maia and picking his shots, while Maia can’t seem to muster much of a response except for throwing single strikes at a time. Usman is finding a more consistent home for his right hand. Maia tries for his first takedown in several minutes. Usman denies him and tells an exhausted Maia to stand up. Usman lands more solid punches before the end of the round. MMAjunkie scores the fourth 10-9 for Usman, who should be ahead 39-37.

Round 5 – Maia is down big in the fight and looking to do something desperate. He’s unable to get through Usman’s guard on the feet, and again is denied on his attempts to take it to the ground. Usman is carefully selected his punches and has paced himself well over the course of the fight. Usman’s left hand to the body lands again just before Maia’s latest failed takedown attempt. Usman is throwing short shots from the front headlock position. Maia tries for an arm-triangle choke from bottom position but Usman is not having any of it. He frees himself from the weak hold and stands back up. Maia shoots for another takedown right away. Usman stops it and works briefly from half guard before standing up. Maia again challenges Usman to join him on the mat, but Usman won’t commit. The same thing happens again seconds later, and with less than a minute left it’s clear Maia won’t be pulling off a dramatic comeback. Usman chases Maia down one last time before the final bell, and that’s the fight. MMAjunkie scores the final round 10-9 for Usman, giving him the 49-46 victory.
