Bilbao Athletic are the latest club to join Spain’s Segunda División after securing promotion in the Ramón de Carranza stadium against Cádiz. The Basque side went into the game with a 2-0 first-leg advantage and the result from San Mamés proved decisive and weighed heavily on the home side, who, despite everything, gave it their all until the final whistle.
Cádiz made things interesting in the early stages as Jona made the most of a long throw to make it 1-0 and halve Bilbao’s advantage. The home side then had 78 minutes in front of them to at least take the tie into extra-time, but in the end their efforts proved to be in vain as Salinas put the game to bed in the dying seconds and booked Bilbao Athletic’s place in the Segunda División.
