Sergio García is leaving Espanyol. The forward and club have reached an agreement that will see Garcia leave Espanyol for a move to the Qatari Stars League. He’s set to sign with Al-Rayyan for two seasons with an additional season as an option.
Despite Sergio García leaving approximately 1,5 million euro in the club’s balance, his leaving creates a big hole in the Espanyol dressing room as the club loses a player who has scored 41 goals in 5 seasons in the blue and white stripes. Espanyol earlier issued a communique giving details of the player’s departure. “The club will respect the agreement reached in the last contract negotiation that would see the player be allowed to leave if an opportunity arose away from Barcelona. After five seasons with RCD Espanyol, our captain has decided to embark on a new adventure. His time at the club has been hugely successful and he counts on the support and esteem of everyone connected with the club. It’s also the moment when the player decides to open the last chapter of his playing career as a player in the Qatari league".
The played and president, Joan Collet will offer a joint press conference tomorrow (1230 CET) in the Power8 Stadium auditorium to give further details of Garcia’s departure.
