David de Gea arrived in Madrid on Thursday afternoon with his girlfriend Edurne, prompting more speculation that he is close to closing a move to Real Madrid. The Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper was caught arriving at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport by several television cameras; the player was only too happy to stop and chat with fans or pose for photographs but didn’t want to make any comments on his future. “I’ve only come here to rest. I am on holiday. Everything’s fine”, was all he said.
De Gea’s holidays will be over by the weekend – he is expected to report for duty on Monday when Manchester United begin their pre-season and manager Louis van Gaal does not want to hear any mention of the keeper leaving the club.
