Syracuse, N.Y. — No. 8 Syracuse men’s lacrosse plays a midweek, midday game against Utah at noon Wednesday at the JMA Wireless Dome.

This is the first meeting between the two programs. It’s just the third time ever Syracuse plays a program from west of the Mississippi River.

The Orange is looking to rebound from a brutal overtime loss in a Top 10 matchup against Maryland on Saturday.

The Utes have yet to win a game this season, having lost at Ohio State and at home against No. 8 Denver. They’re led in scoring by sophomore Ryan Stines, who has five points this season off four goals and an assist.

The game is streaming on ACC Network Extra/ESPN+.

First period

4:13: Syracuse 5, Utah 2

After a few back and forth minutes, long stick midi Saam Olexo saw his opportunity and took it, slinging one in from just inside the box.

The Orange are now on a three-goal run.

7:34: Syracuse 4, Utah 2

Kohn wins the face off and dishes to Mulé, who finds Spallina across the field. Spallina hit Owen Hiltz who dropped one in over Lenskold to give SU its first two-goal lead of the game.

7:55: Syracuse 3, Utah 2

Mulé finds the net with his next shot.

8:30: Syracuse 2, Utah 2

An errant pass by Utah as it looked to clear following a turnover gave Syracuse a chance at a breakaway. Christian Mulé took the shot but it was saved by Lenskold.

Utah’s Cody Hart nets one after a successful clear to tie things back up.

10:26: Syracuse 2, Utah 1

The Orange has won three straight face offs. Johnny Mullen notched his first following SU’s first goal.

Another bounce shot, this time by Michael Leo, gives the Orange its first lead of the game.

11:17: Syracuse 1, Utah 1

After Kohn wins another face off, it doesn’t take SU’s offense long to respond. Jackson Birtwistle bounces one in to even the scoreboard. Spallina assisted.

11:58: Syracuse 0, Utah 1

Mason Kohn won the opening face off against Utah’s Tyler Kloeckl.

Several ground balls in the first few minutes. Joey Spallina has taken two shots and had both saved by Utah goalie Colin Lenskold.

Tyler Bradbury lasered one past SU goalie Will Mark to put the Utes up early.
