Ryan Garcia says he met up with Devin Haney after his earlier rant on social media. The things that Ryan said during his rant have led to a tremendous backlash in the boxing world.
A Friendly Greeting with a Taunting Twist
Kingry says he said hello to the ex-WBC light welterweight champion Haney, calling him “champ, ” and said they could fight. But then Haney failed to let his hands go, which Ryan seems to view as a weakness.
If Ryan’s story is correct, it’s unclear why Haney would want to invite a fistfight with him, given that it wouldn’t give him a huge payday that a rematch against him would. A second fight with the popular Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) would see Haney get a boatload of money.
The best place for Haney and Ryan to resolve their differences is inside the ring, not on the street.
Haney’s Hesitation Raises Questions
Haney says he wants the rematch, and his dad, Bill, is also interested in a second fight with Ryan. It would be crazy for Haney to start throwing punches outside of the ring, but it’s unclear why Ryan would want him to.
“I just ran into Haney right now. Haney, the guy that I beat up with a 1000 left hooks. He literally looked at me. Do you know what I told him face-to-face as I passed him? I said, ‘Keep jabbing, champ,” said Ryan Garcia on social media about running into Devin Haney, who he soundly defeated on April 20th.
“Do you want to know what was hilarious about it? ‘Do you want to hit the switch? We can fight.’ Nothing happened. Bro, you guys are w****,” said Ryan.
Garcia is currently suspended for the next nine months until April as part of a backdated one-year suspension recently handed down by the New York State Athletic Commission for his positive PED tests last April.
