The Memphis Grizzlies player confirmed earlier in Girona that he won’t join the Spanish team in the forthcoming Eurobasket 2015 competition. His decision now forces, head coach, Scariolo to look for alternatives for his pre-tournamnet list of 17 players which he announced last week in Madrid.
Contractual problems with his new NBA deal mean that the younger of the Gasol brothers joins key absentees, Juan Carlos Navarro, Ricky Rubio and José Manuel Calderón, along with Serge Ibaka, who elected to chose Nikola Mirotic over the Oklahoma City player.
Eurobasket 2015, starts on September 5th and runs through to the September 20th. It takes place in five European cites (Berlin, Riga, Lille, Zagreb and Montpelier) and Spain are to play in Group B alongside, Turkey, Iceland, Italy, Germany and 2014 Fiba World Cup runners-up, Serbia.
