A strong personal season form Aleksandar Pavlović for Bayern Munich came to a bit of an unfortunate, unlucky end that was compounded by him needing to leave Germany camp and miss out on the European Championship’s with the senior squad. He came off injured in Bayern’s final Bundesliga match of the season, which was a 4-2 loss at TSG Hoffenheim, but he was healthy enough to be picked for Julian Nagelsmann’s initial EURO 2024 roster for Germany.
Due to persistent flare-ups with tonsillitis, it became clear that Pavlović needed surgery to remove his tonsils, and it is not something that they wanted to wait off on any longer. Unfortunately for him, that meant needing to remove himself from the Germany squad and miss out on the EUROs.
Per information from kicker’s Frank Linkesch, the young midfielder is set to have his tonsillectomy within the coming days, which will be giving him enough time to potentially be fully fit and ready for the start of Bayern’s preseason preparations for the new season under new manager Vincent Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia).
Naturally, he was incredibly frustrated to have missed out on the EUROs with Germany, even if he would not have been in any of Nagelsmann’s starting lineup selections. Toni Kroos was the midfield metronome in the 5-1 win over Scotland, and Nagelsmann had elected to start Bayer Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich alongside Kroos. Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Kai Havertz and Ilkay Gündoğan were the attackers in front of the anchor of Kroos and Andrich.
With the way things have panned out thus far, it is difficult to say how much Nagelsmann would have used Pavlović in Germany’s midfield. Even with all of this conjecture, the young midfielder is remaining increasingly positive and optimistic about his future with both Bayern and Germany. He has already shown under Thomas Tuchel that he can be a force to be reckoned with in Bayern’s midfield and Kompany is said to have high praise for the youngster.
