France got the 78-74 win over Hungary in the Eurobasket group stage, however, the way the Olympic silver medalists played didn’t satisfy themselves first and foremost.
In the video series of the French basketball federation, which chronicles the team’s effort in the Eurobasket, a clip is included with very harsh words by team captain Evan Fournier.
Speaking to his teammates, he says: “ Why do you frown? We have a game to win. What is this? We played badly. We can talk about the referees, and the opponents, but between us what is this brothel? This is how things are…Why we played yesterday? Cause you liked it? Why we didn’t play this night? Because we played against Hungary? This game goes to the trash can and we leave this behind us. But never again. Never again. This is not us”.
