Sir Alex Ferguson joked that Arsenal will be relegated this season after meeting legendary jockey Frankie Dettori at Goodwood.
Ferguson shared an intense rivalry with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger during his reign as United manager.
And the 80-year-old couldn’t resist the chance to wind up an Arsenal supporter after he bumped into Dettori at the racing.
After posing for a photograph alongside Dettori, Ferguson smiled and joked: ‘A quote familiar to Frank, Arsenal are getting relegated this year. He told me that himself!’
Dettori laughed off Ferguson’s quip as he made his way to the paddock.
Ferguson has just been handed a new role at United as he is part of a think-tank set up by the club’s chief executive Richard Arnold.
The former United manager has been included in the select group alongside former CEO David Gill,ex-captain Bryan Robson and the club’s current football director John Murtough.
United play Brighton in their first Premier League fixture of the new campaign on August 7.
Arsenal, meanwhile, rounded off their pre-season campaign with an impressive 6-0 victory over Sevilla at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Gabriel Jesus scored a hat-trick, while Bukayo Saka netted two goals and Eddie Nketiah struck late on.
Arsenal begin their Premier League season away to Crystal Palace next Friday.
