Aston Villa were handed a clear opportunity by Liverpool, ahead of facing Nottingham Forest on Monday night.
Steven Gerrard ’s side will be travelling to the City Ground for the first time in the top-flight since 1999. Newly-promoted Forest are looking to fight off the threat of relegation this term, while Villa head into the game having picked up five points from their last three matches.
It has been far from the easiest of starts for Villa , with fans beginning to express concerns over the team’s style of play and lack of goals. However, after Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, supporters were quick to point out just how far Villa could rise up the league table with a win over Forest.

The club currently sit 16th on eight points after eight games. However, Gerrard’s team could lift themselves into the top-half with a victory on Monday night, leapfrogging Liverpool in the process.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently well below their usual title-chasing standards, matching Villa with two wins so far this season. Here’s a snapshot of what fans had to say about the potential permutations of a win over Forest:
@kathrynxjane: It’s funny if we win tomorrow, we go above Liverpool in the league...
@VillaJase: A win tomorrow and we're up to 9th, a draw and we go nowhere. Fine margins in the Premier League. Please don't mess things up Villa.
@mikeyavfc19: Win tomorrow we go above Liverpool
@marshallavfc: Wins this season: Klopp 2 Gerrard 2
@Braggovic: Villa have been shocking this season, so far. Utterly uninspiring. And yet, win tomorrow and there’s a chance they’ll be above Liverpool in the table. Bizarre.
@faithy1986166: Think we’ve been poor this season but if you’d have said at the start of the season our 9th game is against Forest and if you win that you’ll go above Liverpool I think we would all take that
