The latest Derby County transfer news as the midfielder is preparing for Poland's opening game of the World Cup after moving to Birmingham to ensure his place in the squad.

Derby County midfielder Krystian Bielik has said it was not easy for him to leave the club in the summer, but has hinted he would be willing to complete a permanent move away in January.

The Poland international is currently on a season-long loan with Championship side Birmingham City. But Derby do have the option of recalling him.

Bielik’s move away from Pride Park came about after Poland manager Czesław Michniewicz insisted the midfielder would not be selected for the World Cup had he been playing League One football this season. Bielik is currently in Qatar with Poland as they prepare for their opening game against Mexico this afternoon.

Ahead of the game, the 24-year-old reflected on his move to St Andrew’s in the summer. He has also hinted that he would be open to a move in January.

“When the coach called me and told me this, he sounded very serious. It never crossed my mind that he might be bluffing,” Bielik told Przeglad Sportowy . “I carried out his order, although it was not easy for me to leave my club, I have Derby in my heart. It was hard for me to leave them.

“However, I knew that a great event was ahead of me, coach Michniewicz made this declaration officially, Derby understood how much I care about taking part in these championships. They didn't make any obstacles, they let me go on loan. Probably also with the hope that if I perform well in Qatar, maybe I will be able to get back the money they paid for me, that they invested in me.

“If there is a good offer for me after the World Cup and Derby accepts it, then all I have to do is leave and help financially. I am in contact with the head coach all the time. He said that he was the last person who would make obstacles for me by force, he did not want a prisoner in his ranks.”

After impressing in the Championship for both Derby and Birmingham, Bielik hopes that more good performances on the world’s biggest stage may catch the eye of clubs at the highest level. “I wish that it was so, that I would show up, that someone would be interested in me,” he added.

“I went through a lot, many negative emotions appeared in me. It's all behind me.

“I believe that life will give it back to me in the end and that in the near future I will be able to play at the highest level of my dreams. My dream has always been the Premier League. But I know that nothing comes for free, I have to show on the pitch that I am worth it.”
