Not really an option' - Jota puts pressure on Man Utd ahead of Liverpool clash

Liverpool's Portuguese forward Diogo Jota is looking forward to welcoming Manchester United to Anfield this afternoon.

Diogo Jota has attempted to pile the pressure on Manchester United by suggesting losing points 'isn't really an option' for the visitors this afternoon.

United travel to Anfield for a crucial Premier League clash, looking to cement their place in the top four following defeats for both Newcastle United and Tottenham on Saturday. But such has been the form Erik ten Hag's side since the new year - they've collected 23 points from a possible 30 - that talk of a title challenge continues.

But with both Manchester City and Arsenal winning over the weekend, any push for top spot will leave little room to manoeuvre, and Liverpool forward Jota has hinted the pressure will be on the away side come kick-off on Sunday.

"If they really believe they can win the Premier League, then losing points is not really an option," Jota said. "It will be a hard knock for them, but they are still involved in a lot and they have had a really tremendous season after a shaky start.

“We believe it can be a big game and hopefully we can win. It will be a big one, for sure. If we win it will give everyone a bit more respect for our momentum - and that's what we will try to do.

“It is like one of the biggest games in the Premier League, especially for the fans. And it comes at the right moment for us - if you can say that in this season. We are ready to give it a go, but it won't be easy at all.”

A Champions League thrashing at the hands of Real Madrid has somewhat overshadowed the momentum gathered by Liverpool in the league, with Jurgen Klopp's side having won three of their last four, and four of their last five at Anfield - a ground United have not won at since a 2016 win under Louis van Gaal.

Fellow Dutchman Ten Hag expects both Luke Shaw and Jadon Sancho to be available again, having missed the midweek win over West Ham through injury and illness respectively.
