Shearer makes Liverpool title prediction with warning to Man City and Arsenal

Liverpool moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday and Shearer has spoken out on the title race.

Premier League legend Alan Shearer reckons Liverpool won't ease up in the title race after its ultimately comfortable win over Bournemouth. Liverpool made it 14 matches unbeaten in the Premier League with a 4-0 victory, thanks to two goals apiece from Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez.

Liverpool now sits five points clear at the top of the table with four clubs on its tails, including champion Manchester City, who has a game in hand. Jürgen Klopp's side picked up the win without talisman Mohamed Salah, who had been away at AFCON before suffering an injury, as well as the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai.

But Shearer has seen enough to suggest Liverpool will be right in the title mix until the end of the season. Klopp's side has lost just once in the Premier League and has conceded 18 goals, the fewest in the division.

The ex-England striker shared his thoughts on The Rest is Football podcast, stating: "It wasn't a great first half but Liverpool has strength in terms of forward positions. Even without Salah, it is so strong in that position.

"One off, one on. Goals. Liverpool isn't going away anywhere soon. City got a good result last week, Arsenal got a good result, it was over to Liverpool what can you do?" The way Bournemouth are playing, everyone thought: 'Tough game for Liverpool going to Bournemouth.' Second half it was magnificent."

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola also had high praise for Klopp's team after the match. "Liverpool were really clinical," he said. "Especially their first goal, it's difficult to defend as it's a really good combination.

"The other goals I think we could do more and defend better and react more quickly to these second balls. If you see the second half numbers of Liverpool they are amazing. They are usually good in the first half but in the second half they are amazing."

Liverpool now faces Fulham in the second leg of its Carabao Cup semi-final before hosting Norwich in the FA Cup. That is followed by two key matches in the Premier League against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Liverpool.com says: It has only taken until January but it appears pundits are now finally starting to see Liverpool as real contenders. The wider consensus is that Manchester City will kick into gear and go on another title-winning run and that may suit Klopp and his players. If this form continues, it will take something special to knock Liverpool off the top.
