Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Sevilla and Las Palmas, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sevilla will be aiming to secure their first La Liga points of the new campaign when they welcome Las Palmas to Estadio Ramon on Sunday evening.

Jose Luis Mendilibar's side are bottom of the table, having lost all three of their league games this season, while Las Palmas are 18th, boasting just two points from their first four league fixtures of 2023-24.

Sevilla's clash with Atletico Madrid, which was scheduled for just before the international break, had to be postponed due to heavy rain in the Madrid area, meaning that the Europa League holders have not been in action since suffering a 2-1 home loss to Girona on August 26.

Mendilibar's side have also lost to Valencia and Alaves in La Liga this season, with zero points from three games leaving them at the foot of the division.

Sevilla were beaten by Manchester City in the UEFA Super Cup in the middle of last month, meanwhile, so it has not quite been the start to the season that the club would have had in mind, but the international break came at a good time, and a win over Las Palmas could be used as a springboard.

Los Nervionenses will begin their Champions League group-stage campaign against Lens next week, and it will be fascinating to see how the team perform in the European competition.

Sevilla finished down in 12th position in La Liga last season, which was their lowest spot since being relegated from the top flight in 1999-2000, so their struggles this term have not come as too much of a shock.

Las Palmas, meanwhile, have also found it difficult in the early stages of the 2023-24 campaign, only picking up two points from four matches, which has left them in 18th position in the table.

Garcia Pimienta's side drew 1-1 with Mallorca in their season opener on August 12 before losing 1-0 away to Valencia in their second match of the new campaign.

La Union Deportiva then drew 0-0 with Real Sociedad before suffering a 1-0 loss at Girona before the international break, and they are the lowest goalscorers in the league at this stage with one.

Las Palmas finished second in the Segunda Division last season to secure a return to this level, and they will be bidding to consolidate in La Liga after five straight campaigns in the second tier.

Los Amarillos have not actually beaten Sevilla in La Liga since September 2015, losing each of their last five top-flight fixtures with their opponents on Sunday evening.

Team News

Sergio Ramos is in line to make his second debut for Sevilla, having secured an emotional return to the club on a free transfer, with the 37-year-old back at the club that he left in 2005.

Mariano Diaz and Boubakary Soumare are also in line to make their debuts on Sunday, with the Sevilla squad looking a lot stronger after the end of the summer transfer window.

Youssef En-Nesyri was linked with a move away over the summer, but the Morocco international remained at Estadio Ramon, and he is again expected to start here.

Sevilla will be missing five players through injury, though, with Jesus Navas, Marcos Acuna, Marcao, Tanguy Nianzou and Alfonso Pastor on the sidelines.

Las Palmas, meanwhile, will be without the services of Daley Sinkgraven, Marvin Park and Fabio Gonzalez.

Alberto Moleiro and Sandro Ramirez are also both doubts, with the duo facing late fitness tests to determine their involvement in this weekend's contest.

There are not expected to be any major surprises in the Las Palmas XI for this match, with Munir El Haddadi and Jonathan Viera again set to feature in attacking areas, while Sory Kaba should again play as the centre-forward.

Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Dmitrovic; Sanchez, Bade, Ramos, Pedrosa; Sow, Soumare; Lamela, Torres, Ocampos; En-Nesyri

Las Palmas possible starting lineup:
Valles; Araujo, Suarez, Marmol, Cardona; Loiodice, Rodriguez; Pejino, Viera, El Haddadi; Kaba

We say: Sevilla 1-0 Las Palmas

This is a big match for Sevilla, even this early in the campaign. There will be huge pressure on the home side to pick up a victory this weekend, and we are expecting them to secure all three points, but Las Palmas are capable of making it an uncomfortable game.
