Jamie Carragher has called on Liverpool to change its badge after fans were left complaining at the latest design.

The Reds have been preparing for Thursday's Champions League draw but have attracted unwarranted attention after its new club emblem was used alongside the 35 other qualified teams in the full league stage lineup.

Liverpool announced earlier this summer that the Liver Bird was to be used across all digital platforms for the 2024-25 campaign in order to embrace its history and "make club branding much clearer and more legible in increasingly smaller spaces".

The traditional badge has remained as the club’s official emblem but has taken a back seat when it comes to club identity across social media and online. While Reds fans have had time to get used to this, its inclusion in the Champions League lineup ahead of Thursday's draw has caused uproar.

And Carragher has fuelled the fire by insisting that the new version "just doesn't look right" and that, like other major European clubs, Liverpool should have stuck with its original.

In response to a fellow X (formerly Twitter) user conducting a vote on which crest should be used to represent Liverpool Football Club, Carragher said: "I love club badges of the big European clubs & we are one of them. When I look at this picture ours just doesn’t look right. I know we like to be different at times but the last one was great."

Attached to his response was an image of this season's Champions League lineup, where Liverpool's new crest is on show as one of the 36 teams involved in the competition. Sandwiched in between Ligue 1 side Lille and Manchester City, it certainly doesn't stand out.

A constant since 2012, Liverpool's traditional badge depicts the Liver Bird encased by the eternal flames, something that is instantly recognizable by fans across the world. While it will remain on the back of club kits, alongside the 97 emblem, fans, as well as Carragher, have called for its official return.

Prior to his aforementioned tweet, Carragher also aimed a direct message towards Liverpool's official X account, saying: "Can we have our proper badge back please".

Perhaps someone of Carragher's stature might be able to have some influence on the club's future decisions, especially if he is speaking for the majority of Liverpool fans. While the Reds are excited for their return to the Champions League this season, the new emblem will act as an eyesore for many throughout Thursday's draw.
