Celtic manager Rodgers: Carter-Vickers set for early injury return

USMNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is set for an early return from his hamstring injury, according to Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers.

USMNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is set for an early return from his hamstring injury, according to Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is “further down the road than we thought” in his recovery from a hamstring injury, according to Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers said in late August that he expected the U.S. national team defender to miss eight weeks with the issue, but the 25-year-old appears ready to return a couple weeks ahead of schedule.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game against Lazio, Rodgers said that Carter-Vickers could even be ready to feature against the Serie A side.

“Cam, we wouldn’t take a risk unless he was fit. He has come through really, really well,” Rodgers said. “He is further down the road than we thought.

“He has had a real good week of training and he’s been doing lots of other work out on the field before that.

“I said before that [his return] might have been after the international break but he’s made great progress, so we will just assess that to see if he can be in the squad and if he is, then obviously it would be great news for us.”

Celtic will face Kilmarnock on Saturday before breaking for the FIFA window. The USMNT will face Germany on October 14 and Ghana on October 17 in a pair of upcoming friendlies.
