The quarterfinals of the Liga MX playoffs wrap up on Sunday, first with a matchup between Pumas UNAM and Monterrey.
The first leg between these two clubs was a thriller, with Monterrey securing the win in the 90th minute thanks to a penalty scored by Sergio Canales. That leaves both clubs with everything left to play for in this second leg.
Pumas finished the Liga MX campaign sitting fourth on the table with 31 points in 17 matches, a 9-4-4 record and a plus-eight goal differential. Monterrey, meanwhile, finished fifth on the table with an identical 9-4-4 record and a plus-seven goal differential.

These two clubs met in the Leagues Cup tournament last summer, where Monterrey was victorious 3-0, thanks to goals scored by American forward Brandon Vasquez, Sergio Canales, and Gerardo Arteaga. That game was one-sided but their quarterfinal first-leg matchup was much closer, with the winner not found until stoppage time, so the second leg is without a doubt going to be a thriller.
However, when Pumas UNAM and Monterrey faced off in Liga MX action this year, the game ended 0-0, a result very close to what their playoff matchup looked like. Monterrey has had the upper hand over Pumas in head-to-head showdowns of late, though with the club winning three of their last four meetings with Pumas UNAM.
With two clubs so evenly matched, the second leg of their quarterfinal promises to be a thriller, so be sure not to miss out when Pumas and Monterrey face off again on Sunday.
