Chris Fowler shared a great story about the early days of College GameDay.

Chris Fowler knows Lee Corso better than most.

Fans of College GameDay has gotten used to Corso making picks with the famous headgear that everyone has come to know and love.

Fowler revealed on The Dan Patrick Show on Monday that Corso almost used baseball hats.

GameDay had to negotiate with Ohio State to use the Brutus headgear. Luckily, Kirk Herbstreit’s wife was on the cheer team.

“I mean it started out with a baseball hat, something lame, then it was a helmet. Then, the Ohio State game where you famously saw Brutus the Buckeye’s head and asked for it,” said Fowler. “They politely said no at first, and then negotiated because Kirk Herbstreit’s wife was a part of the cheer team. That’s a true story. They finally convinced them.”

Fowler called the first headgear a lightbulb moment. The crew knew that it would take off after that moment.

“The minute he put it on, you wanna talk about a lightbulb moment? We didn’t know with the first road show, but you knew with the first headgear pick,” said Fowler. “Oh, like this is a thing.”

College GameDay went to James Madison to see the Dukes play App State on Saturday. It will be in Ann Arbor for The Game between Ohio State and Michigan in Week 13.
