No cumplió su sueño de llegar al Mundial Rusia 2018, pero se quedó con la grata impresión de que Perú es un país futbolero. Andrew Durante, zaguero de la Selección de Nueva Zelanda aún no olvida su paso por Lima para disputar el repechaje y compartió en Instagram la sensación que le generó el hincha de la bicolor.
El zaguero de 35 años, que probablemente haya disputado su último repechaje mundialista con Nueva Zelanda, señaló de que se siete "orgulloso de pertenecer a este equipo que tuvo una tarea complicadísima como la de eliminar al número 10 del ránking mundial en una llave a dos partidos. Nos quedamos en el camno,pero podemos estar orgullosos de lo lejos que llegamos como nación y futbolistas".

Y agregó: "Los peruanos son, sin duda alguna, los hinchas más entusiastas del fútbol que he conocido. Ver lo que significaba para ellos en las calles y sentir esa multitud, fue algo fuera de este mundo y que no puede explicarse a menos que lo experimentes tu mismo. El fútbol es su vida, no hay dudas al respecto y es lo que todo futbolista sueña con jugar frente a esos hinchas".
Games like the other night are so few and far between as footballer. The big games, the real big games that mean so much to the countries involved that they stand still with anticipation. To chase my dream for so many years and then having that realisation that it will never become reality is a really tough one to swallow.
