England captain Sam Tomkins tells fans to lag behind the country, it should play more - Worldakkam

Sam Tomkins called on fans of the British rugby league to change their attitude and see the big picture of their country.

And the best way to get them to do that is to get the testers to play more.

Sean Wayne’s men won a compelling 18-4 victory over the Combined Nations All-Stars at the Mid-Season International last Saturday.

But listen to the stories of many supporters and see less than 10,000 spectators in Warrington. Here, a five-digit spectator in a league match is common, and it is permissible to think “what was the point”.

But Tomkins believes the mentality needs to change, especially when it comes to all-star games ahead of this year’s World Cup. The 13-man chord boss can help by putting England on the pitch more regularly.

“Fans don’t support England. They support club players,” he admitted. “That’s why All-Star games have a really strange atmosphere.

“These games don’t have the real feel of someone supporting Warrington. They would have supported the All-Stars team Daryl Clark and George Williams of England.

“People need to stand behind the national team, set aside the loyalty of the club and support your country. If you are a foreigner, support the All Stars. Go buy a jersey, Scream for them.

“What it should be, it’s the way in rugby union, it’s the way in football.

“You need to be in rugby league. You need someone who forgets who you support, such as Wigan, Castleford, Leeds, etc. They must be British fans.

“For me, there should be as many games as possible. The greatest honor is to play for your country, but the point is that we live far away from any good international team. ..

“You cannot travel 11,000 miles to play the game once a month.”

England’s victory-and seeing some things they didn’t do perfectly-was a big step on the road to this year’s World Cup.

And Catalan star Tomkins knows that there is only one way to really change his mind and win. That’s why the All-Star, which is ridiculed by many, is a valid concept.

The 33-year-old woman added to SunSport: “To grow a game, you need to succeed. We can’t expect it to grow and we won’t win anything.

“The last time I won the World Cup, it was black and white. We need to succeed, it’s in us and it will grow the sport.

“No one wants to promote and follow those who haven’t won silverware.

“We wanted to be able to play the national team, a good team, but the All Stars were the best available and we needed to get the most out of it.

“I didn’t play in Australia, New Zealand, Samoa or Tonga, but I played against 17 great players who wanted to get out and win.

“There will always be 17 talented foreign players in the Super League. As long as the concept continues, they will always be a solid team.”
