Xander Schauffele, who had opening odds to win of +2000, shot a 4-under-par 66 Saturday to grab a 2-shot lead heading into the final round at the Renaissance Club, which plays 7,293 yards as a par 70. Schauffele, the No. 7 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, was at 7-under 203 in the last tuneup before next week’s 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews.
Pre-tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas (all at +1200 before the opening round) are non-factors. Scheffler and Thomas missed the cut, while Rahm sits tied for 53rd at 4-over 214.
Defending champion Min Woo Lee, who won a 3-way playoff after finishing at 18-under 266, missed the cut after shooting 77-74.
