Begu Makes Light Work of Gorgodze
Irina Camelia Begu enjoyed smooth passage into the second round as she dispatched World No. 114 Ekaterine Gorgodze in straight sets.
Begu produced a display full of efficiency and only faced one break point on her serve in the whole match and which she saved.
In contrast, she was clinical in break point conversion, as she broke Gorgodze early on in each start and set the tone for the rest of the match.
The Romanian veteran won 77% first-serve points and plantted 23 winners to 27 unforced. While there will be tougher tests to come. Begu will be looking to reach the third round of Wimbledon for just the third time after doing so last season and also in 2015.
Cocciaretto Record Shock Win over Trevisan
Elisabetta Cocciaretto had never won a Grand Slam singles match before Monday, and her chances of changing that record appeared slim having been drawn to face her experienced compatriot Martina Trevisan.
Trevisan had earlier this month reached the Roland Garros semifinals, but played second fiddle to the hard-hitting Cocciaretto who punished her on every short ball.
Cocciaretto was playing in her first-ever match on the grass on the pro tour, but she played nerveless tennis throughout, needing just 69 minutes to knock out her compatriot.
The world No.119 dropped just two games in the match and sent the 22nd seed packing in a textbook performance. She led the first set 5-2 with two breaks of serve, and from that moment on she did not drop a single more gae
Begu v Cocciaretto Prediction and Tip
Trevisan’s injury which needed a medical timeout certainly helped Cocciaretto’s cause big time. But the Italian will likely come unstuck against the experienced Begu.
