van de Zandschulp had a couple of tough weeks on the Tour that saw him question his tennis a little bit but things got back into place in North America. It was there that he played some amazing tennis last year that started his rise. A couple of solid wins over the last few weeks has him playing with confidence again.
Due to his playstyle, it’s important for him to believe in his game because he doesn’t just wait for points to come to him but rather opts to take them. 29-21 is the record this year and 10-9 on hard courts. Playing in North America suits him and he was in the US Open quarterfinal last year.
The points are coming off soon and he needs another solid result to keep himself ranked inside the top 50 and not having to play qualifiers. A solid chance is coming here but he will need to overcome a player he knows really well. The proverbial favourite before the match but that needs backing up on the court.

Lucky Loser Delight for Griekspoor
Tallon Griekspoor had to play the qualifiers to get into the event and he was actually beaten but became a lucky loser. He used it to beat another lucky loser Daniel Taro in the opening round of the event in two sets and move on to round two.
Griekspoor is having a solid year 28-18 and he’s playing fairly solid tennis. Most of the wins he does get are wins he needs to grind out because he does have a problem with breaking the serve of players. Quite a few of his sets end in a tiebreak because he doesn’t find a solution earlier.
It’s not the ideal way of winning matches but there generally isn’t one. As long as he gets a chance to play another match, he’ll be happy. Facing a player he knows well won’t be easy but he should know exactly what to do to win, so that’s a bonus.
van de Zandschulp v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip
Botic van de Zandschulp will be favoured here and I expect him to win the match because I’m generally more impressed with his level and game. Despite that, it’s going to be a close match, probably a 3-setter as Griekspoor is not going to go away.
