Casper Ruud just suffered a strange loss to Yoshihito Nishioka, and while it was weird, Ruud was likely very tired from the drastic time zone change from London to Korea. Jaume Munar is a brutal draw for the first round, but with Ruud’s ranking and level, he should be the heavy favorite here. Munar has had a pretty solid season, and I can see him making a small push here, but ultimately, Ruud will grab the win to book himself a ticket to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Tokyo Open.
Jaume Munar has had a great season, and him pulling off the upset here isn’t even close to the craziest thing I could see happening right now, but it’s still pretty out of the question. Ruud is tough, and I don’t expect his early exist in Korea to really hinder him all too much, let’s see if he can regroup to deal with Jaume Munar in a tough first round draw and book himself a spot in the last 16 of the 2022 Tokyo Open.
Casper Ruud and Jaume Munar have met twice before, with Casper Ruud leading the head to head 2-0. While Ruud may be comfortably leading their head to head by the numbers, that does not at all dismiss the challenge presented here. Their most recent meeting came this season in Gstaad, with Ruud needing 2 tiebreakers to come through that one. While I expect a bit of a tussle, the World No. 3 will likely take this contest and move on here at the 2022 Tokyo Open.
