Jannik Sinner v Francisco Cerundolo Head to Head

It is 1-1 from their two tour-level matches. Interestingly, both the matches were played this year.

At the tour-level, Cerundolo’s win came in unfortunate circumstances in Miami, when Sinner retired after just five games into the match. While, the Italian beat Cerundolo at the Davis Cup in September.

They also met once at the lower level this year, with Sinner winning that contest.

Sinner Cruises Into the Next Round

It was an easy first round outing for Jannik Sinner as the third seed defeated Cristian Garin in the first round on Wednesday without breaking a sweat.

Sinner, who dropped just seven points off his serve in the entire match, won 92% points on the back of his first delivery. The Chilean never seemed to put pressure on the Italian’s serve, as he couldn’t create even a single breaking opportunity in the match.

In contrast, the world no. 12 created seven chances to break Garin and succeeded on three occasions as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win in an hour and 14 minutes.

Seeded no. sixth in the tournament, the 21-year-old improved his season record to 46-14. While he has reached plenty of quarterfinals this year, he has found it tough to make it to the final four. On the two occasions when he went past the last eight stage, he won the title in Umag and lost in the semis in Sofia. So he would be a touch disappointed to have reached just one final this year after winning four titles from five finals last year.

He is off to a good start once again, can he pull off another straight forward win on Thursday?

Cerundolo Too Strong for 21-year-old Wild Card

World no. 29 Francisco Cerundolo got off to a strong start as he needed just 69 minutes to dispatch Austrian wild card Filip Misolic in the opening round on Monday.

The 24-year-old Argentine won 86% points on his first serve but he got just 46% of them in. Still it was a convincing performance from him, as he saved the only break point that he faced in the first set of the match and converted three of the four that he held to dump out the world no. 150, 6-3, 6-3.

The win improved the Argentine to 23-20 on the tour this year. Overall he is 36-28. Cerundolo is at his best on clay courts and he also claimed his maiden career title on the surface in Bastad this year. Additionally he reached the semis in Buenos Aires and Hamburg and also won a Challenger title on the surface. But while he was expected to do well on clay, he took everyone by surprise when he reached the semifinals in Miami.

But that seems to be a one-off effort on hard courts as he has mostly struggled on the surface in the other tournaments and had brought in a 2-8 record from his last 10 hard court matches into the tournament. That record suggests that he may struggle against Sinner on Thursday.

Sinner v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip

Sinner is clearly the better player on hard courts and he is in better form as well. Expect the Italian to storm into the quarters.

Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
