CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Richmond arrived at Boston College Saturday with a 2-9 record and challenged an Eagles team that on Dec. 9 beat Duke, then ranked No. 1.

The Spiders trailed BC by 17 after 13 minutes, then energized defensively and forced overtime before falling 78-73 at Conte Forum.

Redshirt freshman Grant Golden, a 6-foot-10 forward, scored 17 and had 10 rebounds, with redshirt junior guard Khwan Fore adding 14 points and freshman guard Jacob Gilyard contributing 13 points with six assists and three steals.

This was Richmond’s last non-conference game before starting A-10 competition against visiting Davidson Saturday.

Boston College junior guard Jordan Chatman scored 30, with seven 3-pointers.

Richmond (2-10) was getting outrebounded by an average of 7.9 boards a game before outrebounding BC 45-36. The Spiders were behind 56-44 with about 12 minutes left when they extended their defensive pressure, and that move disrupted the Eagles (10-3).
