Needless to say, head coach Mike Mularkey’s team needs a win against the high-octane Los Angeles Rams on Sunday to make good on a promising regular season. Unfortunately, though, the Tennessee Titans will be forced to get it without a key playmaker in the secondary. The team’s top cornerback in Logan Ryan is officially inactive for Sunday’s clash versus the Rams, the team has formally announced.

Ryan suffered an ankle injury during last week’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and has been held out of practice all week as a result. He was officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s action on the Titans’ final weekly injury report.

“[Cornerback] is not like other positions,” Mularkey said, per ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe, “where an ankle you don’t need as much.”

Tennessee needs Ryan on the field more than ever, too. The team placed LeShaun Sims on injured reserve this week following a hamstring injury he suffered at Wednesday’s practice, leaving the Titans without two of their top three cornerbacks for one of the most important games of the season – and against a team tied for the league in points per game with 31.3.

Rookie Adoree’ Jackson and veteran Brice McCain are likely to start Sunday’s game while youngsters Tye Smith and Kalan Reed will be asked to pick up the slack left by Ryan and Sims.

“It’s an opportunity for everybody to get their name out there and ball out,” McCain recently told ESPN. “Let everybody around the league know who you are.”
