It appears as though the Dallas Cowboys and cornerback Orlando Scandrick are ready to part ways. According to NFL insider Mike Fisher of 1053 The Fan, Scandrick will not be with the Cowboys next season.
In addition, Fisher reports that Dallas tried to trade Scandrick for New Orleans Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro last year.
Scandrick is inactive for the Cowboys’ game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday due to a pair of transverse fractures in his back. The injury also kept him out of Dallas’ last two contests. Overall this season, the 30-year-old has played in 11 games, registering 38 total tackles and three pass defenses.
Scandrick, who played his collegiate football at Boise State University, was originally selected by the Cowboys in the fifth round (143rd pick overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.
He appeared in all 16 regular-season games during his rookie campaign but only made two starts, logging 27 total tackles, one sack, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four pass defenses. The following year, Scandrick remained a nickelback and finished with 46 stops in all, one sack, one pick, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and nine pass defenses. He did not become a full-time starter for Dallas until his sixth season in 2013, where he tallied 64 total tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and 13 pass defenses. Since then, nagging injuries have inhibited Scandrick, as he has now missed 10 games over the last three years, including his absence this Sunday.
The Cowboys are clinging to relatively slim playoff hopes and will battle the Seahawks in a must-win game at 4:25 p.m. Eastern Time.
