The Northern Ireland striker scored a sensational second-half winner to stun 10-man Manchester City as League One Wigan shocked the Blues yet again in the FA Cup and ended their quadruple hopes.
And it all came after both managers almost blew their tops at half-time after Fabian Delph was sent off for the Premier League side.
Latics boss Paul Cook had to be separated from Guardiola and City’s players at the break.
But his anger turned to joy when Grigg scored a 79th-minute winner while Guardiola was left to simmer over another embarrassing Cup defeat to the League One side.
But the FA will take a hard look at the scenes at the end as Wigan and City fans seemed to trade blows with City’s Sergio Aguero caught up in the melee.
Defeat also ended City’s chances of winning all four major trophies this season as they prepare to face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Wigan have history against City, including their greatest ever day.
Manchester City player ratings v Wigan
That was back in 2013 when Ben Watson’s header won the FA Cup for the Latics the FA Cup and upset the big favourites on the grand stage of Wembley.
Days later they were relegated from the Premier League only to meet City again in the same competition at the quarter-final stage as a Championship club.
And they shocked City again with a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.
This time they were looking to do it as a League One club and against Pep Guardiola’s City, who are by far the best team in the top tier.
And the City boss didn’t even rest all of his main stars with the likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Leroy Sane all starting.
City will use the excuse of Delph’s sending off but it was an even first half before the red card with City actually better with 10 men after the break.

Aguero headed wide early on for City before Ilkay Gundogan then forced Latics keeper Christian Walton into a good save from the edge of the area.
Wigan had lost their last two games to Southend and Blackpool, conceding five in the process and losing top spot in League One.
Grigg ran at a labouring John Stones before lashing into the side-netting as the crowd of over 20,000 started to believe another shock could be on the cards.
They did need a good save from Walton to deny Aguero after the Argentina ace had waltzed through the home defence.
But then suddenly a shock was made more believable when Delph was sent off when he lunged in on Max Power, studs up.
At first it looked like referee Anthony Taylor was going to give the City man a yellow card but then went for red which left City furious.

Cook had words with Aguero on the touchline before he continued to row with the City squad and Guardiola in the tunnel as tempers boiled over.
City came out for the second half desperate for a winner and Guardiola brought Kevin De Bruyne off the bench to try to inspire something.
They had most of the ball near the Wigan area but could not find an opening then out of nowhere Wigan broke in the 79th minute.
Grigg collected the ball and was able to out muscle John Stones and beat substitute Kyle Walker before firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the area to spark wild scenes in the stands.
That famous chant of ‘Will Grigg’s on Fire’ soon rang around the DW Stadium and the song was later replaced by “Que Sera, Sera we’re going to Wembley” with a tie at home to Southampton next up.
City tried everything to equalise even throwing up keeper Bravo at the death but Wigan somehow held on.
Thousands of fans ran on the pitch at the sound of the final whistle and the PA system played the tune to the goal hero to help the celebrations.
