TORONTO — The Yankees made the following roster moves prior to Opening Day:

— Greg Bird was placed on the 10-day disabled list after undergoing right ankle surgery on Tuesday. He will miss the first six-to-eight weeks of the season. Tyler Austin was recalled from Triple-A Scranton and will start at first base on Opening Day. Neil Walker will also see time at first, depending on matchups.

— Jacoby Ellsbury was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain (retroactive to March 26). Brian Cashman has said Ellsbury will require 40-50 rehab at-bats before the team activates him. He is currently in Tampa. The Bombers are fine without Ellsbury, reduced to a reserve outfielder/pinch-runner, because they already have starters Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Tyler Wade could also play the outfield if needed.

— Clint Frazier was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list (retroactive to March 26). Frazier took on-field batting practice earlier this week in Tampa, an important step as he continues to recover from a head injury that has featured several setbacks.
