The Dodgers have purchased the contract of infielder Max Muncy and recalled him to the Majors. Muncy is a 27-year old, who is primarily a second baseman but has played all over the infield as well as the corner outfield in the past. He’s coming up to provide infield depth after the injury to Logan Forsythe. Breyvic Valera was optioned back to Triple-A to make room for Muncy.

Muncy spent all of 2017 at Triple-A Oklahoma City, and performed well. The infielder hit .309/.414/.441 with 12 home runs in 109 games. Following a solid spring training, the 27-year old got off to a hot start in Triple-A and is getting his chance with the big club. This is not Muncy’s first taste of the big leagues however, as he spent parts of two seasons in the Majors with Oakland in 2015 and 2016.

Muncy could see time at both second base and third base, as well as pinch hitting. His stay will likely be short with Forsythe likely only needing 10 days to recover. However, if he performs well enough he could force the Dodgers’ hand.

To make room on the 25 man roster, Breyvic Valera will head back to Triple-A. Valera’s stay was brief but he showed good patience at the plate and showed good range on defense. Valera is one of only two qualified players to walk more than he struck out in Triple-A last season, the other being Alex Verdugo. With his good approach at the plate, there’s a good chance he’ll be back with the Dodgers at some point.
