Jose Mourinho's side will look to bounce back from a shock loss and secure second place with a win over West Ham

Manchester United will be looking to bounce back and gain positive momentum ahead of their FA Cup final clash against Chelsea next Saturday when they face West Ham at the London Stadium.

Following a surprise 1-0 loss to Brighton, Jose Mourinho will no doubt be aiming to finish their league campaign on a high with a victory over David Moyes' side. Forward Alexis Sanchez returns to the fold while Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini miss out due to injury.

Wednesday's trip gives Patrice Evra a chance to face his former club – the Frenchman spent eight years at Old Trafford. Fellow ex-Red Javier Hernandez, however, will miss the fixture due to an ongoing recovery from a knee injury.

West Ham sit comfortably 15th place and five points off the relegation zone, having won 29 points from 25 games since the Scot took over from Slaven Bilic last November.

Mourinho has confirmed that veteran and club captain Michael Carrick will start the last game of the season – which will be his last appearance for the club – following the announcement of his retirement as a player . He will take up a coaching role with the club come the end of the campaign.

Match Preview

David Moyes, West Ham, 17/18

Mourinho's side have just two Premier League games left to secure a second-placed finish, and a win against West Ham would be enough to seal the deal ahead of Tottenham close on their heels.

Just a draw against the Londoners would be enough to see Mourinho achieve United's highest points tally following Sir Alex Ferguson's departure, as well as giving some young fringe players the opportunity to get a chance to feature in the first-team.

The Portuguese boss, however, will have one eye on the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 19 and will be saving the fitness of his key players. Apart from the injuries sustained by Lukaku and Fellaini, Mourinho has a fully-fit squad and will likely shuffle his side following the disappointment of the loss to Brighton.

Despite saving West Ham from relegation danger since assuming the post in November, the club have yet to offer the Scotsman a permanent contract. West Ham were in 18th place before Moyes guided them to safety, but he has revealed that he decided to remain at the London Stadium despite getting other offers from other clubs.

“I could have joined a Premier League club during the season here, when I was West Ham manager,” he told reporters.

"I chose not to. But I've got other things if it's not renewed. It's not a problem.”

“There is nothing scheduled [about talks]. We always said, even in November, don't even ask me because we won't have an idea before the end of the season."
