Former NFL QB Johnny Manziel said Saturday on Twitter he plans to sign a two-year contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Johnny Manziel is heading to the Canadian Football League.

Manziel announced in a Twitter video Saturday that he plans to sign a two-year contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

“Made the decision today to sign my contract with the CFL and further my football career after a long break,” Manziel wrote on Twitter. “Very grateful for everyone that’s been supporting me along the way. I believe this is the best opportunity for me moving forward and I’m eager for what the future holds.”

The 25-year-old quarterback passed for over 7,800 yards and accumulated 93 total touchdowns in his two-year career at Texas A&M. He won the Heisman Trophy as a redshirt freshman in 2012 when he threw 26 touchdown passes and added another 21 rushing scores.

Manziel was selected 22nd overall by the Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft, but his career was derailed by off-field issues. He appeared in 15 games over two seasons, registering eight total touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Tiger-Cats finished 2017 in third place of the CFL’s Eastern Division with a 6-12 record. They failed to make the playoffs.

The 2018 CFL preseason begins May 27, with Hamilton playing its first game June 1. Hamilton kicks off the regular season June 16 at Calgary.
