New details have emerged regarding the death of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

An eyewitness believes he saw the 24-year-old shortly before the QB was struck early Saturday by a dump truck while crossing a Florida highway on foot. Per WTVJ:

“I was dropping off my daughter to an airline at the Fort Lauderdale Airport in the morning ... And what I noticed was a Mack truck, or a big tractor-trailer, with also another vehicle that started moving a little bit to the left. I was in the left lane and then there was the right lane. And then I noticed an individual there starting to make their way onto the road. ... He was about halfway, to a quarter way in the right lane, already onto the highway and I was already concerned that somebody was going to strike him right there at that moment.”

According to the report, the eyewitness saw the man’s arms raised up a little bit as he appeared to be drifting into the major highway.

The eyewitness said he didn’t see a vehicle on the other side of the highway which might’ve belonged to Haskins. The eyewitness also said he couldn’t draw any conclusions: “That’s why it’s just very disturbing. I just didn’t understand the situation.”

According to the report, the eyewitness called 911 at 6:31 a.m., which was six minutes before the crash was reported to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Investigators haven’t said why Haskins, a former Ohio State star quarterback who was born in Highland Park, N.J., and raised in Middlesex County, was walking on the highway.

Haskins was the No. 15 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He played a pair of turbulent seasons with the Washington Redskins before moving on to the Steelers last year, where he backed up future Hall of Ben Roethlisberger.
