A thunderstorm watch is in place for the area.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
According to the weather agency, thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon (June 26) and will persist into this evening.
The thunderstorm watch is in place for communities such as Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Ardrossan, Gibbons, Bon Accord, Redwater, Lamont and Bruderheim.
