Zack Short is back in the major leagues.
The Kingston High graduate was brought up by the Detroit Tigers from the Toledo Mud Hens, their Triple-A affiliate, the Associated Press reported Thursday. Short, an infielder, was called along with fellow Mud Hen Kody Clemens, an infielder and outfielder.
Short played Thursday for the Tigers against the host Oakland A’s in the first game of a doubleheader. He went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Detroit’s 7-2 win. It was Short’s first game with the Tigers this season.
In 85 games with the Mud Hens this season, Short had 69 hits in 307 at-bats for a .225 batting average. He had 22 doubles, a triple and nine homers to go along with 37 runs batted in.
Short shuttled between the Tigers and Mud Hens during the 2021 season. In 61 games for the Tigers last season, he batted .141 with six homers and 20 RBI.
The win improved the Tigers’ record to 38-55. Prior to the nightcap of Thursday’s doubleheader with the A’s, Detroit was fourth in the American League’s Central Division, 11 1/2 games behind the first-place Minnesota Twins.
After an off day Friday, the Tigers play a two-game weekend series at home against the Twins before starting a three-game series Monday against the visiting San Diego Padres.
