Monday’s action saw the first seed fall in Los Cabos when Quentin Halys lost in straight sets to Ricardas Berankis. On Tuesday three more seeds take to the court with hopes of avoiding a similar fate. Top seeds Daniil Medvedev and Felix Auger-Aliassime are only in action from Wednesday and we must first determine who they might be facing. We do exactly that in this first set of ATP Los Cabos day 2 predictions.
ATP Los Cabos Day 2 Predictions
Facundo Bagnis vs Ernesto Escobedo
Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Bagnis
These two are both clay court specialist who aren’t expected to mount much of a challenge for the title in Los Cabos. Still, with a relatively week draw outside of the top four seeds there are opportunities to pick up valuable points here. Facundo Bagnis comes into the tournament with some form and is the favourite here. Ernesto Escobedo is winless in his last seven matches and has never been able to mount much of a push towards the top 100 in the men’s game. Bagnis should win easily enough here.
Prediction: Bagnis in 3

Yannick Hanfmann vs Jordan Thompson
Head-to-head: First meeting
Neither player comes into this tournament with much form, though Yannick Hanfmann did make a nice little run in Kitzbuhel last week. The German has floated consistently around the top 100 mark for much of his career without ever crossing the bridge on a consistent basis. Still, he is a talented player who can cause real trouble on his day. Jordan Thompson certainly won’t be happy to be facing him. The Aussie has had a torrid year so far and is undoubtedly looking for a kind draw to help him right ship in the second half of 2022. He is the better player here, but not by much. This one should go the distance and could go either way, but I like Thompsons chances of edging out a win here.
Prediction: Thompson in 3

Radu Albot vs Feliciano Lopez
Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Albot
Feliciano Lopez’s career is all but done now. The Spaniard picked up just one win on the grass court swing, his preferred surface. That win was also his only win in 2022 across the 20 matches he has played so far. The tennis world will give him a fond send off when he does decide to hang it up. Until then, he will likely face more misery and that is no different here. Radu Albot is a solid player who has shown good signs in recent months after struggling a little last year. The diminutive Moldovan is a good player on hard courts and a tricky opponent to best. Lopez will have to serve immensely well just to keep this close. Even then, a win here is too much to ask from the beloved Spaniard.
Prediction: Albot in 2

Brandon Nakashima vs Kaichi Uchida
Head-to-head: First meeting
Kaichi Uchida is in something of a purple patch at the moment. He currently sits at #175 in the world. The Japanese player has never finished a year ranked inside the top 200 but with four months left on the tour he’s in with a real chance in 2022. That being said, a deep run here looks unlikely. He faces Brandon Nakashima in the first round and the American is a rising star in the men’s game. Nakashima has a great game for hard courts and has impressed mightily on the tour in recent months. He’s seeded here and on the cusp of making a debut inside the top 50 in the men’s game. It’s only a matter of time before he breaks that threshold and he should take a step closer with a win here.
Prediction: Nakashima in 2
