The Chicago White Sox will look to keep the pressure on the American League Central Division leaders when they battle the Kansas City Royals in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The White Sox (55-53), who split a four-game series at Texas, have won four of six to move to within two games of the first-place Minnesota Twins and one game behind the second-place Cleveland Guardians. The Royals (44-65) have won two in a row and three of four. Chicago, which leads the all-time series 429-406, has won six of the last 10 meetings with Kansas City, and is 24-16 vs. the Royals in the 2020s.

The game is slated to begin at 4:10 p.m. ET from Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Both teams will send right-handed pitchers to the mound with Lance Lynn (2-4, 5.87 ERA) going for Chicago against Kansas City's Brady Singer (4-4, 3.67 ERA). The White Sox are 45-41 against right-handed starters, while the Royals are 30-49 against them. Chicago is a -125 favorite (risk $125 to win $100) on the money line in the latest White Sox vs. Royals odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total runs scored is eight.  Before making any Royals vs. White Sox picks, be sure to see the MLB predictions and betting advice from SportsLine's proven computer model.

Why you should back the White Sox

Centerfielder Luis Robert returned to action this past weekend after a bout with blurred vision and has continued where he left off. After going 9-for-13 (.692) with two homers and eight RBI in a three-game stretch in mid-July, Robert had been out of the lineup until Thursday. Robert has hits in all three games since then, including a double and two RBIs in Sunday's win at Texas. In five games against Kansas City this season, he has six hits, including two homers and six RBIs. He is a career .293 hitter vs. the Royals with seven homers and 17 RBIs in 20 games.

First baseman Andrew Vaughn has also taken a liking to Kansas City pitching, going 7-for-21 (.333) with a double and a triple in last week's three-game set in Chicago. For the season, Vaughn is hitting a robust .389 against the Royals with two doubles, one triple, one homer and five RBIs. In 27 career games against them, Vaughn is batting .297 with four doubles, one triple, three homers and 13 RBIs. He has also drawn 10 walks. For the season, Vaughn is hitting .298 with 11 homers and 52 RBIs.

Why you should back the Royals

Since the All-Star Game, Kansas City's hitters have been on a tear and are eighth in the league with a .260 average, and are second in MLB in stolen bases with 14. Catcher Salvador Perez has been a big reason for the offensive turnaround. He has hits in six of the last eight games, including four homers and 10 RBI. He was 3-for-12 with a double and a home run at Chicago last week. He is a career .257 hitter with 26 doubles and 23 home runs in 152 games against the White Sox.

Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has also been hot, with hits in eight of his past 10 games, including the past four, where he has gone 6-for-16 (.375) with a homer and five RBIs. In 10 games against Chicago this season, Witt is batting .275 with two homers, three RBIs and two stolen bases. He also has a .525 slugging percentage and .835 OPS against the Sox. For the year, Witt is hitting .257 with 15 homers, 56 RBI and 54 runs scored.
