Rangers are 90 minutes away from the winter break but the heat is still firmly on Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
A win over Hearts in midweek eased the pressure slightly on the Dutchman but there is simply no margin for error.
Anything other than three points against St Mirren and that month-long shutdown will afford the Ibrox board time to think - and possibly act.
The Buddies have already beaten champions Celtic on their own patch earlier this season and repeating that today would earn them a first Old Firm league double since 1989/90.
Stephen Robinson's men have made a solid start to the season which has seen him reportedly attract the attention of Luton Town.
An injury time St Johnstone strike denied them a win in midweek but they will also be hoping to go into the shutdown on the back of a win.

Open game so far
It's been open so far and that should suit Rangers but only if they can take chances. Remember, they had plenty of the ball and a couple of efforts against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park last week but then lost the opening goal which knocked the stuffing out of them. They have to take one of these chances to avoid a repeat.
Wright tries his luck again
Scott Wright pulls his shot just wide of target after a good, positive driving run from the former Aberdeen man. He should have at least hit the target there.
Tillman in the mood
Malik Tillman is looking lively in the opening 20 minutes. As well as that shot past the post earlier he's had a couple of dangerous runs into the box and is proving a bit of a handful for the St Mirren defence.
Wright denied
He keeps things Kam
In that aforementioned St Mirren break, it was good play from Glen Kamara to snuff out the threat from Curtis Main. The Finnish international then threaded a neat pass through for Alfredo Morelos who took on a shot first time but it was ambitious and off target.
