The Giants had hoped last offseason that either Aaron Judge or Carlos Correa would be shining on a nightly basis at 24 Willie Mays Plaza.
Now, Giants fans know exactly when the first time that both Judge and Correa will play at Oracle Park is since they signed elsewhere.
Major League Baseball unveiled the 2024 schedule for all 30 teams on Thursday, and the most noteworthy thing for the Giants was that both of their failed free-agent pursuits will make their first trip to the shores of McCovey Cove since the 2022-23 offseason.
The Yankees and Judge will come to Oracle Park from May 31-June 2, while Correa and the Twins will be in town from July 12-14 in the final series before the All-Star break.
The Giants will open the season in San Diego on March 28, kicking off a four-game series. They’ll also have their home opener against the Padres on April 5.
The MLB schedule arrangement that began in 2023 means opponents make only two visits to their divisional foes. For the Giants, the two visits from the Dodgers will come May 13-15 and June 28-30.
The Giants will face their rivals in Los Angeles from April 1-3 and from July 22-25, meaning there will be no Giants-Dodgers matchups in the final two months of the season.
Other quirks include a scheduled home doubleheader against the Rockies on July 27 and the previously announced Rickwood Field matchup with the Cardinals on June 20 in Birmingham, Alabama. That game will come the day after a three-game series at Wrigley Field wraps up, and the Giants will be off on June 21 before resuming the three-game series against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
When the Yankees come to town, Judge will play at Oracle Park for the first time ever. He was injured when the Yankees played here in April 2019.
While the reigning AL MVP met with the Giants in San Francisco last offseason — and an erroneous report sent people scrambling for about seven minutes — it seemed like he always preferred to return to the Bronx, and signed a nine-year, $360-million deal with the Yankees during the Winter Meetings.
Correa, on the other hand, did agree to sign with the Giants on a 13-year, $350 million deal, but the Giants became concerned with his physical that Correa took the day before a scheduled introductory press conference.
Correa would then agree to a 12-year, $315 million deal with the Mets, but that, too, was not signed once the Mets had concerns with Correa’s physical. He would finally land back with the Twins, who he played for in 2022, on a six-year, $200 million deal.
The Giants faced both during this season on the road, with Judge homering against the Giants on Opening Day in New York. Correa, meanwhile, was hearing boos in Minnesota when the Giants came to town in late May.
The Giants will end their season hosting the Cardinals for a three-game series from Sept. 27-29. But they’ll only finish with that series after their second three-city road trip just before it, going to Baltimore, Kansas City and Arizona from Sept. 17-25.
