Starting pitcher Elieser Hernández’s first season in the New York Mets organization has not gone as planned.

The Mets traded for the veteran in the offseason with the hopes of bolstering their starting pitching depth. Instead, Hernández has spent most of the year on the injured list, the latest stint coming because of a strained right pec a day after he was recalled to the majors, The Athletic’s Tim Britton reported Tuesday. He started the year on the IL because of a right shoulder strain and also dealt with a side issue.
