Chiefs head coach Andy Reid didn't seem concerned about the playing surface at State Farm Stadium in his comments to reporters on Thursday.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII victory in February was marred by the less-than-ideal playing surface at State Farm Stadium. The slippery playing surface has been the object of unending speculation on social media since the Chiefs’ championship win, and Kansas City is set to take the field in Glendale, Arizona when they face the Cardinals on Saturday for their second preseason exhibition.

For his part, head coach Andy Reid didn’t seem overly concerned with the field and told reporters that the Chiefs had done their due diligence on the conditions at State Farm Stadium ahead of their weekend tilt in the desert.

“Yeah, we know what the field has been,” He said during Kansas City’s August 17 press conference. “We’ve checked on it, which we do every week everywhere. It’s actually in pretty good playing shape. It might not look the best when you’re looking at it on tape, but they say it’s gripping well, and that’s what you want. You want the sturdiness of the turf.”

While Reid may not be bothered by the prospect of a slippery field, the Chiefs’ training staff will need to be prepared to make adjustments to players’ cleats if necessary to ensure that slips and slides don’t become a talking point in the media next week.
