Race 5

The top three selections for this the opening leg of the day’s Jackpot all hail from the Mike Dunn yard, but the narrow top choice goes to DESERT MIST who overraced in the early and middle stages when finishing nineth last time out over a mile, just under five and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was at a stronger center and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding gets gate five and will be looking to chalk up his third career victory.

AL ASH LAD raced just behind the leaders and then battled all the way down to the wire when ending up in third place last time out over 1300M, just under a half length back from the victor. He faces a wide draw eleven, but he should be doing his best work late and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

DAEDALUS put his disappointing penultimate start over a mile behind him when finishing second last time out over the same journey, beaten a head in the shadow of the post. He finished strongly from some way back that day and from a handy gate three, he represents solid support for his stable companions.

Race 6

MISS SUPER is a 5yr mare taking on the boys, but she won over 1100M three runs back, finished thirteenth in her penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then third in her latest outing over six furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 13 week rest. She was slow away that day and raced four wide without cover, but stayed on well over the closing stages. She has pulled a wideish gate eight, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

AT WITZ END is seldom far off the action and raced wide throughout when finishing tenth last time out over 1300M, three and a half lengths back from the winner. The gelding returns here from a 17 week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust and although drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, he should turn in another performance today.

GREYWORM on the other hand has cracked pole position and finished tenth in his latest outing over six furlongs, four lengths adrift of the victor. He raced three wide in that event and then came four wide approaching the home turn, before making good late progress and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, KINLOCH has consistent formlines to his name and had to be held up in the home straight and shifted out at the 300M mark when finishing a short-head second last time out over seven furlongs, so can be considered an unlucky loser. He has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial and from gate seven, he looks to be the one to side with here.

WATEGOS goes for his hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and the latest over 1300M by putting 2.8L between himself and the opposition and that was at a stronger center. He went from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw fifteen, he is likely to adopt similar tactics today.

EAGLEMONT has consistent formlines to his credit and followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fourth place finish next time out over the same trip, 1.2L back from the winner and that was also at a stronger center. The gelding finished well from some way back on that occasion and the form of the race has been franked. He faces a wide draw eleven, but nevertheless he should not be easily dismissed.

Race 8

SHAQUILA had finished second twice over 1100M prior to ending up in fifth spot last time out over five furlongs, just under four lengths behind the winner, but he was crowded at the 800M pole that day and that was at a stronger center. The gelding jumps from gate five and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

DUBAI NIGHTS has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over six furlongs, beaten just a short-head. He finished powerfully that day and from a wide draw twelve, he should be doing his best work late. He will also be having his peak run for his new trainer after returning from a 16 week break and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

ROCK TOGETHER is a 4yr filly taking on males, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over 1300M with a fourth place finish next time out over five furlongs, 1.8L back from the winner. She was returning from a 41 week spell on that occasion and has finished second in a subsequent barrier trial. She jumps from a wide gate ten, but nevertheless she should be involved in the finish.
