John Ruddy has confirmed his departure from Birmingham City after two years between the sticks at St Andrew's.

The veteran goalkeeper has decided to move on at the end of his contract, despite the club's offer to keep him, and end his career elsewhere. Ruddy, 37, made 89 appearances for Blues and kept 23 clean sheets - including 10 in his final season in B9.

Posting on Instagram, Ruddy said: "I would just like to say thank you. Thank you to all of you Bluenoses that made me and my family feel so welcome at your wonderful club over the last two years.

"It didn’t end as any of us wanted to but I hope the one thing that you can say about me was I gave everything every time I pulled the shirt on. Sometimes it was enough and other times it wasn’t to be, but it was a genuine privilege to play for your club.

"I wish the players, staff and fans nothing but success and as I’ve said previously I believe the club will get to where they want and should be! Good luck and thank you again. John and family."

Ruddy's exit means Blues goalkeeping coach Maik Taylor will have a new department next season. Blues have already signed Ryan Allsop from Hull City to replace Neil Etheridge and they will now search for Ruddy's successor.
