HONOLULU (KHON2) — Haili’s Hawaiian Food has been a community staple just like the food they have served since the 1950s. This week, they are serving up their last orders on Sunday, June 30.

The restaurant was home to almost four generations of families, according to Lorraine Haili-Alo, Haili’s Hawaiian Food Owner.

“My mom and dad. I know that they’re very satisfied with where my sisters and I brought the business,” stated Lorraine. “We tried our best. We did what they taught us. All of our children and our grandchildren, everyone can hold their heads up high.”

Customers including Lorraine’s classmates from Kamehameha Schools stopped by one last time to remember simpler times.

“Haili’s has been here our whole lives. From Ala Moana to all the various places. So, this is our life,” said classmate Robin Makapagal.

Others even volunteered their hard work during Haili’s final days.

“They were so busy we just decided to come and help her out today because they are so full,” stated classmate Haunani Hendrix.

Lorraine said it’s bittersweet but it’s time for her to finally do everything she’s put on hold since taking over the family business.

“My mother always stressed to us about being leaders in the Hawaiian community and making sure that we did the right thing and we live the right way,” stated Lorraine, wiping away tears. “It’s just heartwarming to see all of my friends from high school and customers that have become friends.”

Sunday will be the last day to grab authentic Hawaiian food at Haili’s. Lorraine hopes to start catering a few months after she’s settled.
