Colorado Rockies game no. 84 thread: Rob Zastryzny vs Austin Gomber

It’s safe to say the Colorado Rockies did not enjoy their five game road trip. After drubbings from the Houston Astros and the bottom-feeding Chicago White Sox, the Rockies are back within the familiar confines of Coors Field to start a seven game homestand. The Milwaukee Brewers are up first, coming all the way down from The Good Land to play four against the Rockies.

It would appear the Brew Crew are electing to run a bullpen game this evening with journeyman lefty Rob Zastryzny taking the ball first. Zastryzny is making his first big league appearance of the season after being called up from Triple-A Nashville over the weekend. The 32-year-old Canadian southpaw had never made more than ten appearances in a season before last year, where he had 21 outings with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Through his career he has pitched 3 ²⁄₃ scoreless innings against the Rockies with four hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.

Rockies lefty Austin Gomber will be looking to avoid his kryptonite in his start tonight: giving up runs in the first inning. Gomber has made 15 starts this season and carries a whopping 13.80 ERA in the first inning. What has been frustrating is that Gomber has been largely excellent in every other inning. He carries a sub-3.00 ERA in all but the fifth inning, where his ERA pops up to 4.00 so far this season.
