Fresh off an exciting series win against the Atlanta Braves, the Colorado Rockies hit the road once again looking to play some spoiler in the dog days of summer. Their target for the next three games is the playoff-hopeful and resurgent Arizona Diamondbacks. The Snakes have gone 17-5 since the All-Star Break.
On the mound for the Rockies and making his first career major league start is the right-handed Bradley Blalock. Blalock was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers prior to this year’s trade deadline. The no. 20 organizational prospect per MLB Pipeline, Blalock has an arsenal consisting of a mid-90s four seam fastball, a curveball, a slider, and a splitter. He made his big league debut earlier this season with the Brewers out of the bullpen with a scoreless inning of relief. After being traded to the Rockies he was assigned to the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats, where he has made two starts. During those starts Blalock gave up eight earned runs over 11 2⁄3 innings with 12 strikeouts.
On the bump for the Diamondbacks is the right-handed Brandon Pfaadt, who is having a strong sophomore season. Pfaadt is carrying a 3.92 ERA into this game over 137 2⁄3 innings pitched and 23 starts. The Rockies last saw Pfaadt in the season’s opening series, where he pitched five innings and gave up just one earned run while striking out six batters. Most recently he pitched 6 1⁄3 innings against the Cleveland Guardians with six strikeouts and two earned runs given up.
