Gus who’s back?

Staten Islander Gus Edwards, who is 13 months removed from surgery for a torn ACL, is slated to return to the Baltimore Ravens active roster on Sunday. Edwards, of course, missed all of the 2021 season after suffering the injury during a practice in September and has been on Injured Reserve this season.

The Tottenville HS product was designated to return earlier this month and activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Saturday. He joins Kenyan Drake and Justice Hill in the backfield for the Ravens, who placed fellow back JK Dobbins on Injured Reserve to make room for Edwards on the active roster.

The 27-year-old figures to play a major role for the 3-3 Ravens, who host the Cleveland Browns this week.

“Gus is looking really good. I think he’s on track,” offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. “We’re really excited about having him back. I think he’s getting better every day. I’m really excited about that.”

After bursting onto the NFL scene in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Miami and Rutgers, Edwards churned out three consecutive 700-plus yard rushing seasons, averaging better than five yards per carry in the process.

Prior to last season, he inked a two-year, $10 million dollar contract extension with Baltimore for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
