The Miami Heat have recalled swingman Derrick Jones Jr. from the G League as part of his two-way contract, in the wake of the thigh bruises that have sidelined guards Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington.
Jones, signed on Dec. 31 to his two-way contract, has made 10 appearances, including eight starts, with the Heat this season.
Because of travel, he was inactive for Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Jones has six remaining days he can spend in the NBA this season on his two-way contract. Once that total is reached, he either would have to spend the balance of the season in the G League, be released, or be converted to a standard NBA contract, which would require the Heat to clear a spot on their 15-player NBA roster.
Jones would have to be converted to an NBA contract by the final day of the NBA regular season in order to be playoff eligible.
Jones returns from his time with the developmental-league Sioux Falls Skyforce having averaged 4.0 points, 2.7 rebounds in an average of 19.3 minutes with the Heat earlier this season.
The athletic wing had has appeared in 24 G League games (18 starts) this season between the Northern Arizona Suns (16 games) and the Skyforce (eight games), averaging 16.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.67 blocks, 1.17 steals in an average of 29.1 minutes, shooting 49 percent from the field.
In his most recent G League action, he scored a game-high 22 points while grabbing four rebounds for the Skyforce on Wednesday night against the Oklahoma City Blue, the affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Guard Derrick Walton Jr., the other Heat player on a two-way contract, remains with the Skyforce, with five remaining NBA days left on his contract.
